Why it matters
ASIN is the primary identifier inside Amazon's catalog. All listings tie back to an ASIN — your offer attaches to an existing ASIN or you create a new one. Without ASIN, you can't list on Amazon.
ASIN — Amazon Standard Identification Number — is the primary identifier inside Amazon's catalog. Distinct from GTIN: GTIN is the manufacturer's barcode (UPC/EAN), ASIN is Amazon's internal identifier. All listings tie back to an ASIN.
The two paths: reuse an existing ASIN (your offer attaches to it) or create a new one (Amazon assigns when Add a Product produces a unique listing). Brand-gated products require explicit brand authorisation; the Brand Registry programme controls which sellers can create or modify ASINs for registered brands.
The locked-ASIN dynamic: for brand-registered ASINs, canonical attributes (title, description, images) are locked to the brand owner. Other sellers can only attach offers — they can't edit the listing content. This is why reseller catalogs sometimes encounter "brand mismatch" or "ASIN locked" issues: the canonical brand on the ASIN doesn't match what the reseller's feed declares.

FAQ
How do I find the ASIN for my product?
Search Amazon for the product. The ASIN is in the URL (after /dp/) or in the product details section. If no listing exists, you create one and Amazon assigns the ASIN.
