Why it matters
EU consumer protection law requires per-unit price display. Without both unit_pricing_measure and unit_pricing_base_measure, products in regulated categories get blocked from EU Shopping placements.
Pairs with unit_pricing_measure to enable the EU-mandated per-unit price comparison. unit_pricing_measure declares the item's actual size (`750ml`); unit_pricing_base_measure declares the comparison standard (`100ml`). Channels compute the per-base-unit price and surface it for comparison.
The standardisation: 100ml for liquids under 1L, 1L for larger liquids, 100g for solids under 1kg, 1kg for larger solids, 1 ct for unit-counted items. The base measures are conventional rather than required — channels accept any valid unit but populate the standard ones for cross-listing comparability.
Without both fields populated, the comparison doesn't display. The EU regulatory requirement is the visible comparison, not the field population — but the field population is what enables the visibility.
