Fix “Mismatched value [color]” on Google Merchant Center

Feed colour doesn't match what the landing page or image shows. Common when 'Midnight Whisper' is in title but the colour field says 'Black' (acceptable) vs. when actual product shown is blue (not acceptable).

What you see in Google Merchant Center:

Mismatched value [color]

API identifier: mismatched_value_color

Colour mismatch flags when the feed says one colour but the landing page or image clearly shows another. Common when wrong variant is linked between feed colour and landing page, or when the colour field reflects the parent product's dominant colour rather than the specific variant.

The variant-linking discipline matters here. Variant URLs should point at the specific variant — not the parent product page where Google might see a different default colour. Each variant's link, image_link, and colour all align.

For marketing-name vs standard-name mismatches (title says "Midnight Whisper", colour says "Navy"), the two should align in intent even when they differ in exact wording. The classifier is forgiving when title's colour name and field colour are obviously the same colour; less so when they describe genuinely different colours.

Top causes

  • 1

Wrong variant linked between feed colour and landing page

  • 2

Multi-colour items where the feed picked the dominant colour but the page shows a specific variant

  • 3

Marketing names in title not matching the standard colour value

How to fix it

  1. 1

Spot-check feed colour vs landing page

Pull 20 random items. Match feed colour to what's shown on the page.

  2. 2

    Fix variant-link issues

Variant URLs should link directly to the variant — not the parent product page where the wrong colour might default.

FAQ

Does the colour field need to match the title exactly?

No — title can use marketing names ('Midnight Whisper Wool Coat') while colour uses the standard equivalent ('Black' or 'Navy'). They need to be consistent, not identical.
