item_group_id identifier Fix “Missing SPU ID for variants” on TikTok Shop
TikTok requires variants to share a Standard Product Unit (SPU) ID — equivalent to item_group_id on other channels. Without SPU IDs, variants compete as separate items and TikTok's classifier rejects them as duplicates.
What you see in TikTok Shop:
Missing SPU ID for variants SPU ID is TikTok's equivalent of item_group_id. Variants without shared SPU compete as separate items and get classified as duplicates.
Group variants under one SPU; each variant has its own SKU ID. Single-variant products can use SKU = SPU.
Top causes
- 1
Variant items without parent grouping
- 2
SPU ID assigned but inconsistent across the variant group
- 3
Single-variant items where SPU ID = SKU ID (acceptable but should be set)
How to fix it
- 1
Group variants under a single SPU ID
All sizes/colours of one product share the same SPU ID. Each variant has its own SKU ID.
- 2
Update the feed
Populate item_group_id field — TikTok reads this as SPU ID.
- 3
Re-submit
TikTok revalidates within 2-4 hours.

Duplicate ID
Two or more rows in the feed share the same id. Google can only accept one item per id — the others are silently dropped, leading to inventory gaps you'd otherwise miss.

TikTok detected an item that's very similar to another listing in your catalog or another seller's catalog. Can suppress delivery on both items pending review.

FAQ
What if my product has no variants?
Set item_group_id equal to id. TikTok accepts single-variant items but expects the SPU ID field to be populated.
